Dartmoor is the largest National Park in the South West of England, covering 368 square miles. High Willhays in north Dartmoor is the highest tor at over 620m.
Agatha Christie was born in Torquay, Devon, but was a frequent visitor to the Hay Tor area of Dartmoor.
All the cattle, sheep and ponies grazing on Dartmoor are owned by farmers. Please don't feed them as they are attracted to the roadside and can be seriously injured or killed by passing traffic.

Granite formations mark Dartmoor 
- Dartmoor offers more bronze age sites than anywhere else in the country.
- Dartmoor's granite tors were formed 295 million years ago.
- The standing stones began being erected by neolithic people in about 2000 BC.
- There was a Royal Mint established at Lydforn between 976 and 1015 (AD).
- In 1076 The Domesday Book recorded a castle at Okehampton.
- In 1337 King Edward III formed the Duchy of Cornwall to provide an income for his son, the original Prince of Wales - "The Black Prince".
